In The Beginning

Have you seen these tracts? A webcomic pointed them out, so I figured I should take a good look.

Now, I know the Bible says that the earth was created in six days, but am I really suppose to take that literally? No where in the Bible does God name just how long a day is to Him. It is totally possible that six days to God is equal to 6 million years.

Further, there are two creation stories in the Bible, which one is true? The one that is discussed is the one where Eve is created out of Adam's rib, but the one before that states, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:26-27

So which is it, the rib or God created men and women in His image? And, what did God mean by "Let us make man... in our likeness" Who were these other people to whom God was referring?

And, while we're on the subject of Eve, I don't buy that Eve ate the apple first. Afterall, men wrote the Bible, were they really going to say Adam ate the apple?

Plus, according to this track, Eve wanted to be God, so that's why she talked Adam into eating the apple. And, launched 6000 years of female oppression.

Blessings!

The Bible does say how long a day to God is. It's 1000 years.

2 Peter 3:8

"But there is one thing my friends, that you must never forget: that with the Lord, 'a day' is a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day."

Ps.90:4.

For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.

God is outside of time (because He is the Creator of time itself.)

The immediate context of the Psalm is the frailty of mere mortal man in comparison to God. This verse amplifies the teaching, saying that no matter how long a time interval is from man’s time-bound perspective, it’s like a twinkling of an eye from God’s eternal perspective.

In any case, the meaning of ‘day’ in Genesis 1 is defined by the context there — the Hebrew word for day, yôm, is used with the words ‘evening’ and ‘morning’, and the days are numbered (first day, second day, etc.). Whenever yôm is used in such a context, it is always an ordinary day, never a long period of time. The meaning of the days of creation as ordinary days is also affirmed by Exodus 20:8–11, where God told the Israelites to work for six days and rest on the seventh because God had made all things in six days and rested on the seventh.

Get yourself a study Bible, read and then get yourself to a Bible following Church, include yourself in a Sunday School Class. There are some little books "Commentaries" by J Vernon MaGee on each book of the Bible, Very easy to read and understand. Your book store should have them and if not ask a Minister of an Assembly of God Church about them.God Bless your efforts and you also.

When God said "We" and "Our" He was talking about the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
